Well, we want to challenge that: Come visit the AHS Freakshow, Ac- ton High's annual haunted house, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. tonight (Oct. 29) to see how brave you really are. Our insane asylum turned fun- house is guaranteed to thrill even the most seasoned adrenaline junkies, and the price of admission for this night of terror is a mere $2 or two non-perishable food items. Profits go to Acton Me to We and the Acton Food Share. Come ex- perience the lost souls and insan- ity that is typical of high school in a chilling, terrifying environment, and prepare to be scared. Note: strobe lights, fog ma- chines, and loud noises are all part of the haunted house experience, and it is not suitable for young chil- dren. A group of Acton High School students made a $5,000 dona- tion recently to Milton's Darling Home for Kids after winning the Youth Philanthropy Initiative civ- ics course competition. The contest involved Grade 9-10 students in the mandatory civics course in groups of 2-4 who research, choose and advocate for a local-area charity. A finalist from each of the school's civics classes was selected to make a case for their charity to be chosen in front of a judging panel consisting of principal Deb Robinson and YPI representatives. The team of Alex MacDonald, Alana Raine, Shannon Clark and Hayley Kri used a power-point presentation to demonstrate the impact that the Darling House has for children in the area, including an in-person testimonial from a young girl who uses the facility on a regular basis. Raine said they've requested that the funds be used to cover the cost of pool maintenance for five months, three art therapy ses- sions, three music therapy ses- sions and four recreation therapy sessions. Darling Home for Kids devel- opment co-ordinator Jennifer Young (centre) was recently pre- sented with a cheque for $5,000 from Grade 10 Acton High School students (from left) Hayley Kri, Alana Raine, Shannon Clark and Alex McDonald, who won a competition sponsored by the Youth Philanthropy Initiative organization. The students chose Darling Home for Kids as their charity to research for their civics course and the winning team's prize was to donate to the funds to DHK and specify what it is to be used for.
