Norman Hennig-Pereira brings 25 years of ministry experience, plus a degree in education, voice music studies, and experience as a youth leader and food bank vol- unteer. "He was the unanimous choice of our search committee" says Su- san Tupling, who runs the church's Food for Life community food sharing program. "When we went to hear him preach in his previous church, we felt right at home with his inter- pretation of the Bible, his use of technology in worship, and his sense of humour." The search committee was comprised of members of the congregation with a variety of interests, backgrounds and ages including a teenager, parents and grandparents. A native of Calgary, Hennig-Pereira stud- ied at University of Calgary, Berkeley, Wa- terloo University, and Emmanuel College at University of Toronto. Previous ministry charges include in Mildmay, Ont., a church in Montreal, and at St. James United Church in Etobicoke. He is the founder of several blogs including Lenten Block Par- ty. He lives with his spouse Cliff, two daughters, two dogs, a cat and "far too many fish." "From the first day at St. John's I felt very much at home" said Hen- nig-Pereira. "The warmth and care I experienced here has been amaz- ing. I'm impressed with the qual- ity of the music program, a blend of traditional and contemporary styles." Renowned for its hospitality, commu- nity outreach and music tradition, St. John's motto is "Welcoming all with open doors, open hearts, and open minds." The church recently celebrated 175 years of worship and community service in Georgetown and Glen Williams. St. John's United welcomes new 'perfect fit' minister NORM HENNIG- PEREIRA
