Consider the Oyster is a mod- ern romantic comedy by David MacGregor. His plays have been performed from California to New York to London to Sydney, Australia.  He is a Resident Art- ist at Jeff Daniels's Purple Rose Theatre in Chelsea, Michigan, where Consider the Oyster  de- buted to great acclaim in 2011. Consider the Oyster is a funny and surprising exploration of gender and our changeable human nature. The Real Detroit Weekly called it 'a fictional premise so audacious and so utterly sur- real…sets in motion a romantic comedy that posits one serious question after another." Spontaneous gender change can be ob- served in oysters, amphibians, and some fish, but never in humans… until now. The premise in an oyster shell is this. When Gene breaks his leg after proposing to girlfriend Marisa, he begins to feel some odd changes. It turns out the oyster shell that the doctor left in his leg to assist with his healing is causing him to slowly transition into a fe- male; just the way an oyster does. Can Gene learn to live his life as a different gender, and will he--or she-- be able to feel the same for his fiancee? Shows are on Nov. 6, 7 and 11- 14 at 8 p.m., with a Sunday mati- nee at 2 p.m. on Nov. 8. Tickets are $24, $20 for seniors and $5 for students with valid ID. Call the Box Office at 905-877- 3700 or buy o line at www.haltonhills.ca/ theatre. Like eating oysters, laughing local makes you live longer! So turn off the TV, get up off the sofa and Consider the Oyster. Enjoy real, live, local theatre!
