The retired owner of Checker Cabs has been making watches for the Cana- dian Military for the past 20 years. She has made pieces for the Black Watch in Scotland and the Royal Canadian Navy. Now, Devine has made a line of watches to commemorate the 150th an- niversary of the Lorne Scots regiment. "This watch is the official Depart- ment of National Defense approved watch," said Devine. The Lorne Scots are the Peel, Duffer- in and Halton Infantry Regiment of the Canadian Military. They are one of the oldest Canadian Military Regiments and are older than confederation. The Lorne scots have bases in Brampton, Oakville and Georgetown. The regiment has served in the Boer War, the First and Second World Wars and also numerous conflicts since. They have even assisted Canadians in crisis during the Quebec Ice Storm in 1998 and the Floods in Manitoba the year prior. Members of the Lorne Scots regiment have served in Afghanistan as well. "This is an enormous honour for someone in Canada to be making these watches," she said. From each watch that is sold, a por- tion is donated to the regiment. "It's not about the monetary value," says Devine, who explaining that she works to keep the retail price of the watches low, in order to make them af- fordable for veterans. "It's about doing something to keep Canadian Military history alive," she said. The watches are crafted with 24 karat gold plating, Seiko movements and al- ligator style leather straps. The Lorne Scots crest is embossed on the face of the watch. The straps come in blue, green, black and red. In 2012, CIBC donated 550 watches to the veterans living in Sunnybrook hos- pital. One veteran said to her, "We can't wear our medals every day, but we can wear the watch." "You cannot put a price tag on that," she said.
