Each clear glass Memory Ball is tastefully en- hanced with small decorations and a name tag is attached with the names(s) of the person you wish to remember. The names of the Loved Ones re- membered are also printed onto a large "In Mem- ory Of… sign which is located between the two Memory Trees. Although the Memory balls are on the Memory Tree during the Festival of Lights, the sign is always there for park visitors to see. "We are now our fourth holiday season and this idea has proven to be an emotional and beautiful tradition for people to honour and remember a loved one lost," said Light Up The Hills chair Gerry Kentner. Each Memory Ball is $25 for the first year. The cost goes toward the creation of the Memory Ball and then to cover costs for the Light Up The Hills 'not-for-profit' organization to help offset the over- all Festival of Lights event costs (including the many thousands of LED lights, displays, and the hydro cost etc.). After the Festival is over, the Mem- ory Balls are removed from the Memory Trees. The Memory Ball volunteers remove, inspect main- tain/refurbish them as/if required and then store them until the following December. During September, October and November, volunteers begin to sell Memory Balls for the up- coming event-- they will be in the mall on Nov. 27. They also contact all people who have purchased a Memory Ball in previous years and asked if they wish to have their Memory Ball placed onto the Memory Tree for that year. The renewal donation is $10. If you or someone you know wishes to pur- chase a Memory Ball, please contact one of the fol- lowing Memory Ball volunteers: • Hazel Armstrong: darmstrong@aztec-net. com, 905-877-1325 • Bonnie Brunton: bbrunton@hotmail.ca. 905- 873-9800 • Kathy Brooks: Kathy.brooks@cogeco.ca, 905- 877-6606.
