The latter part of au- tumn does not disappoint with its impend- ing darkness and gathering gloom. Liturgi- cally speaking, Advent falls in the later part of this period and dispels the darkness with the anticipation of the birth of Christ, thus bringing hope at the bleakest time of year. The Georgetown Bach Chorale has just the remedy for you-- a complete concert of Advent music to help brighten and give meaning to this inward time of year. The performance will take place at St. John's United Church, 11 Guelph St., Georgetown on Saturday, Nov. 28 at 8 p.m. The program will consist of rarely per- formed choruses, arias and duets from won- derful Cantatas such as Bach's rendering of Nun komme der Heiden Heiland and Chris- tum air sollen Loben. The performance not only highlights these wonderful sublime sounds in the beautifully renovated sanctuary of St. John's United Church, but the orchestra, consist- ing of five strings, two oboes and two harp- sichord, also plays an important role with tremendous concerto like displays in the or- chestral texture. Local protégé Matthew Pope, now in his first year in the doctoral program at Western University, will be featured in Bach's Double Concerto in C minor alongside Artistic Direc- tor Ron Greidanus.
