The board's agree- ment is with the Halton Elementary Occasional Teachers Local, which represents more than 900 occasional elemen- tary teachers. Occasional teach- ers fill in for permanent teachers when they are absent. The occasional teach- ers are expected to hold their ratification vote on or before Dec. 18. The deal must be ratified by the Hal- ton local members and the school board's trustees. Terms of the tentative agreement remain confidential until the ratification process is completed. The Halton public school board has nine employee union groups it deals with. All of the board's local unions have reached at least tentative central agreements. Central agreements are those bargained by the union at the pro- vincial level with repre- sentatives of the Ontario government and the Ontario Public School Boards Association (OPS- BA). The Halton public board has four remain- ing unionized employee groups seeking a local contract -- educational assistants (EAs), secre- tarial/office support (OS- STF), Early Childhood Educators (ECEs) and Professional Student Services Person- nel (PSSP). "We are still negotiating and are closer on some (local deals) than others. We have (negotiating) dates booked for all (four) groups in December and in the new year," said Sari Taha, the board's manager of hu- man resources.
