Following are some 'Festive Tips' to con- sider from the HRPS: Residential - During the holidays, there is an increase in residential crime, so be sure to lock your doors even if you're just running out to the store. Be sure to keep the exterior of your house well lit as it will deter potential wrong-doers. Try and keep valuables such as, wrapped gifts out of sight from the roadway. Pay attention to your neighborhood. Know your neighbors and question any- thing that appears suspicious (running ve- hicle parked on the road for an extended period). Vehicle - Ensure your vehicle is locked every night when you go to bed. Keep the vehicle in a well-lit area. Do not keep any valuables inside your vehicle. If you need to keep items in your vehicle make sure they are out of sight and secured properly (locked in the truck or glove box). Always make sure you have an accurate count of all your vehicle keys and who has access to them. Shopping - When out doing your holiday shopping, keep your shopping in the trunk, where it will be out of the sight of potential thieves. When at the checkout, make sure to al- ways protect your PIN if you are using a debit or credit card. Do not tell others your PIN number. Always keep a close watch over your Purse or wallet while shopping. Driving - Over the holidays many of us will go to parties and outings with friends and family be sure that you have a plan for a safe ride home, and never drink and drive. Plan for a designated driver. Call a taxi or take transit when possible. Also be mindful of others while on the road. If you see any driving that appears erratic call police.
