The inaugural Inspire Awards were pre- sented to members of the local commu- nity last month at the Georgetown Hospital Foundation's Donor Appreciation Recep- tion at The Club at North Halton. The awards are given to individuals or community groups who have made a posi- tive impact on local healthcare. In its first year, there were eight award recipients: • Shelley Phipps -- Founding member of the GHF Board of Directors and was the Development Committee chair until step- ping down in 2014. • Georgetown Cruise Nights (accepted by Mike & Lynn Boyd) -- For more than 15 years, the weekly Thursday night gath- ering of Classic Car enthusiasts has raised approximately $35,000 through sponsors, 50/50 draws and sales of pizza slices. • The Lambert Family Christmas dis- play on Johnson Cres. (presented to Kathy & Darryl Lambert) is about to celebrate its seventh year, consisting of more than 45,000 lights and close to $50,000 raised for the foundation in part through donations from the public. • Georgetown Hospital Volunteer Assoc. (received by Marie Carney) has held many bake sales, raffles, quilt draws and poinset- tia sales to support the foundation. • Cathy Ireland -- The leader of Team RBC for the Walk or Run for Georgetown Hospital, she hosts the annual In Memory of Chris Ireland Golf Tournament founda- tion fundraiser in tribute to her son. • The Community Bike Challenge (ac- cepted by Ryan Carney) was hosted by the Bicycle Friendly Community Committee and inspired more than 1,000 cyclists to do- nate their kilometres in support of the GHF to the tune of $62,500 this year. • Georgetown Rock n' Rolln' Classics (recipients Lee Martin & Wendy Farrow- Reed) has generated $43,000 for the GHF over the past 15 years. Martin recently re- tired from hosting the event since its in- ception and has been taken over by the Georgetown BIA, which is managed by Farrow-Reed.
