Have a photo you want to share? Email -- with details -- to cgamble@theifp.ca. DOWN THE LINE From our readers Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Do you remember two years ago at this time? Many of us did not have power; our streets looked like a warzone with fallen trees, branches and hydro lines. Let's hope that this year we don't have an- other ice storm. Being prepared for an emergency is essential. A family emergency survival kit is simple and should be pre- pared ahead of time. Make sure your family knows where the survival kit is kept. Stock these six basics in your home: water, food, first aid sup- plies, tools and supplies such as, clothing, bedding and spe- cial items. Have your cell phone charged and cash on hand. Please visit our website for more information on how you can prepare. www.haltonhills.ca/fire/pdf/emerg- PrepareGuide2007.pdf **** We've been lucky so far with winter but I'm sure it will come. Our staff will do their very best to ensure that the roads are maintained for our safety. Please be patient, as we have over 900 km of roads, 125 km of sidewalks and 25 municipal parking lots to main- tain. The sequence of priority for roads is as follows: Regional, arterial and col- lector roads followed by local streets. **** Enjoy free public skating over Christ- mas break at the following locations: Acton Arena - Dec. 28, 29 and 30 from 2 - 3:20 p.m. Sponsored by Acton Rotary Club. Mold-Masters - Dec. 28, 29 and 30 from 2-3:20 p.m. Sponsored by Opti- mist Club of Halton Hills. **** My annual speech to the town from the Chamber can be found on our web- site: www.haltonhills.ca/mayor/ pdf/2015_HHCC_Speech.pdf **** For all of those Leaf fans, there is a special game on Jan. 3, 2016.  The Toronto Maple Leafs Alumni will be facing off against the Halton Hills Fire- fighters at Mold-Masters SportsPlex at 1 p.m.  All proceeds will go to CAShh. in Halton Hills.  CAShh does wonderful work for the residents and families in our community who are battling cancer. **** I invite everyone to come out to the Acton Winter Carnival on Jan. 30 at Prospect Park in Acton. Lots of outdoor activities are being planned. This will be a lot of fun for the whole family! Last year was a huge success, we just need snow. **** I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and wish you all the best for the New Year. **** Keeping it real! Sold to a Quebec company in 1993, the building was demolished in 1999, with the stone walls of the sunken garden all that remain of what was a Georgetown and Canadian gardening institution. Light up the Hills now celebrates the season at Dominion Gardens Park, named in honour of this iconic business. Text courtesy of Heritage Halton Hills/Photo courtesy of Esquesing Historical Society
