The Region's objective is to create an Active Transportation Plan that is safe, affordable, sustainable and will support the Active Transportation mode split of five per cent by 2031. Active Transportation is any form of human-powered transportation which includes walking, cycling, roller-blading and movements with mobility devices. An Active Transportation network includes sidewalks, multi-use paths, crosswalks, on-road cycling facilities, as well as recreational trails. The Process The Active Transportation Master Plan was conducted in accordance with the master planning process following the requirements of Phases 1 and 2 of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process (October 2000, as amended 2007 and 2011) which is an approved process under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act. A key outcome of the study is the development of Regional Cycling andWalking Networks that the Region can incorporate into its Roads Capital Program (to 2031). The Active Transportation Master Plan incorporates public, local municipal and agency comments received during the course of the study.While the Active Transportation Master Plan addresses need and justification at the broad level, more detailed studies for Schedule C projects included in the Active Transportation Master Plan will be completed in subsequent studies as per the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process. Jan. 20 9:30 a.m. Regional Council NEWS It didn't take long for Halton Regional Police to charge its first impaired driver of 2016. Just before 3 a.m. on Jan. 1, two vehicles collided at the in- tersection of Fourth Line and 10 Sideroad, with one of the cars driving off without stop- ping. There were no serious in- juries. The driver of the other ve- hicle began to follow the sus- pect vehicle, providing police with updates on their location. Officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle and con- ducted an investigation of the driver. Charged with impaired driving, exceeding the blood alcohol limit and leaving the scene of a collision is Jessica Lindo, 22, of Milton. First arrest of 2016 just three hours after midnight
