The occupants of the house, located just north of Steeles Av- enue near Winston Churchill Boulevard, were not at home at the time. Halton Hills Fire Department responded to a call of a fully in- volved structure fire at around 10:30 p.m. Chief John deHooge reported that flames were shooting through the roof of the building and firefighters took on defen- sive operations soon after arriv- ing on scene. Mutual aid was received from the nearby Mississauga Fire & Emergency Services as wind chill temperatures dipped un- der -20C through the morning hours. Crews from the George- town and Acton stations cleared the scene at about 5 a.m. Sun- day. Deputy Chief Bruce Morri- son said Monday that the blaze is not considered to be suspi- cious, but its cause is not yet known due to the extent of the damage near the place of origin. He added that the family did have fire insurance and that firefighters were able to re- trieve many personal items from the home's bedrooms, which were left intact.
