th ei fp .c a Th e IF P -H al to n H ill s | T hu rs da y, F eb ru ar y 1, 20 18 | 30 On Feb. 17, Canada's own Walt Wingfield comes to our neighbourhood, by special arrangement with the Concerned Residents Coalition (CRC), in a gala fund-raising presentation of Wingfield's Progress at the Acton Town Hall Cen- tre. Hearty country suppers in one of two neighbouring churches, Knox Presbyte- rian and St. Alban's Angli- can, will precede the theat- rical performance, en- hancing the country theme of the play. The gala is a fund-raiser for the CRC as it prepares for an OMB hearing on the Hidden Quarry. Walt's adventures in Wingfield's Progress will have you rolling in the aisles with laughter, laugh- ter about the world we live in where the city dreamers meet the weathered farm- ers and the two groups find ways to come together to meet community challeng- es. Since 1984 "Walt Wing- field", businessman turned farmer, has been regaling audiences, both rural and urban, across Canada and the United States, in the series of sev- en plays by Dan Needles with more than 4,500 shows logged to date. Re- nowned and beloved Ca- nadian actor Rod Beattie brings a delightful and memorable assortment of characters to life in these virtuoso one-man shows. In Wingfield's Progress the spectre of urban devel- opment looms on the Sev- enth Concession, and Walt sounds the alarm. Can he mobilize the neighbour- hood to save the rustic splendour of Larkspur? Does Larkspur want to be saved? The Wingfield Gala, like the Nylons Gala in 2016, will be a full evening of en- joyment with a country at- mosphere. The Acton Town Hall is a heritage gem of a theatre, as are the two 19th century churches, St. Alban's and Knox Pres- byterian where traditional country suppers will be served by the congrega- tions. Both churches are walk- ing distance to the theatre. Home made pies will be served at intermission, and wine and beer will be avail- able for purchase. Seating is limited for this once-in-a-lifetime ex- perience. Tickets must be purchased in advance. For information, please con- tact Linda Sword at 519-853- 1896 or lsword@xplor- net.ca.
