ROBINSON, Martin Howells It is with sorrow that the family of Martin Howells Robinson announces his sudden passing, the morning of Thursday, February 1, 2018, with his wife and youngest son at his side. Martin was born March 25, 1944 to John and Betty Robinson, at Workington on the Solway Firth, at the NW edge of the English Lake District in the UK. After form school he attended the University of Lancaster, where he earned his MA in Financial Control. Following Convocation, Martin was awarded a prestigious medal for scholarship, presented by a member of the Royal Family. An important part of his young adult years was travelling with the great group of buddies who comprised RAMD Tours: Ron, Alan and David rounding out the foursome who travelled far and wide in Europe, Scandinavia and the UK. The unique travelogues they put to music on their return were enjoyed by many, and continue to this day. Martin began his career with Workington Brewery Company. In 1968, he travelled to Canada with the Rotary Club - a fateful trip, as it was on this trip that he met his future wife, Gillian. After a return trip to Canada for their 1971 wedding, Martin took his bride back to the UK, where they settled in a lovely bungalow at Branthwaite, close to his family. Duncan arrived in 1972, and in 1974 the young family immigrated to Canada. Here Martin began a long and successful career with INCO, beginning in Thompson, Manitoba, where Fletcher was born in December of that same year. Martin's career took them to Sudbury, New Jersey, Toronto, Indonesia and eventually Australia, from where he retired in 2007, as Director of Financial Services for the Goro Nickel Project in New Caledonia. Martin had a strong commitment to his Lord, his family and was especially devoted to his grandchildren. His fi rst thought was always for Gill, "the love of his life" (his own words)) and for his boys and their families. "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love" - John 15:9 Martin volunteered at The Riverwood Conservancy, where he served in the roles of Chairman of the Board and Treasurer. His hobbies were Genealogy and his garden, from which he produced a bounty of fruits and vegetables each and every year. Neither Mother Nature nor the critters got the best of Martin and his garden - he outsmarted them all. Tenacity was his middle name! He was also a great tease and a consummate wordsmith - his hilarious "Christmas epistle" will be missed by all who were 'honoured' enough to be on the mailing list. Martin is predeceased by his parents John and Betty Robinson, and his in- laws Elmer and Betty Lien. He is survived and mourned by his wife of 47 years, Gillian; eldest son Duncan (Liberty), Cole and Nya of Calgary; younger son Fletcher (Joanna), Raelynne and Decklan of Oakville; sister Christine (Alan) Wharton and their family, nephew Nicholas (Hazel), Reece and Dominic, all of Carlisle UK; Gill's family in Saskatchewan, sister Debbie (Bob) Thompson, nieces Michelle (Steve) Michaluk, Stefan and Holly, Carter and Kylee; Amanda (Kevin) Zarubin, Brooke and Alicia; Shannon (Ryan) Osask, Mykayla, Summer and Lukas; niece Jade (Justin) Clewis, Kale and Samuel; nephew Jordan Lien of Fort McMurray AB; and many special cousins and friends in Canada, Europe and the UK. He will also be greatly missed by the family's two remaining cats (the "moggies" of Christmas epistle fame), Panda and Willow. Following cremation, a Celebration of Life will be held at The Portico Church, 1814 Barbertown Road, Mississauga ON L5M 2M5, on Friday, February 9th at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Rick Carroll will offi ciate. The family wishes to thank the Mississauga Fire Department, Peel Police and Paramedics, Credit Valley Hospital ER personnel, good friend Tom Svoboda, our Portico family and neighbours. Your prayers and support have been invaluable. For those so wishing, the family would appreciate memorial donations directed to the Riverwood Conservancy, 4300 Riverwood Park Lane, Mississauga ON L5C 2S7. We have only a memory, dear mother, We cherish our whole life through; But the sweetness will live forever As we treasure the memory of you. 18. Always so good, unselfi sh and kind. Few on this earth her equal we fi nd. Honourable and upright in all her ways, Loyal and true to the end of her days. You are not forgotten, dear mother. 19. Memory drifts to scenes long past, Time rolls on, but memories last; Sunshine passes, shadows fall. Love's remembrance outlasts all. 20. Tonight the stars are gleaming On a lonely, silent grave, Where sleeps in dreamless slumber One we loved but could not save. No one knows the silent heartaches, Only those who have lost can tell Of the grief that we bear in silence For the one we loved so well. In Memoriam Verse Sample VE R 17 19
