A partnership between Woodview and the Halton District School Board, the plan consists of a retrofit project currently under- way at Harrison Public School in Georgetown. Woodview communica- tions director Michelle Bake-Murphy says she hopes for the new hub to be completed by June, so that the centre can begin offer- ing services on nights and weekends over the summer months. Bake-Murphy says though Woodview has been serving Halton, Hamilton and Brant for 58 years, and does provide services to North Halton, this will be their first official location in the north. "We are so delighted to be able to offer this hub to provide services in North Halton," she said. "We are in the north, but because our head office is on the west side of Burlington, a lot of our staff are on the road a lot of the time, trav- elling to see families . We're definitely out there but we don't have a hub, which is why we are so excited about this opportunity." Halton Hills superinten- dent Scott Podrebarac notes crews are currently working on asbestos abate- ment while Harrison stu- dents are on March break. He says he expects the space will be move-in ready in three months' time. "It's a real win for Hal- ton Hills," Podrebarac add- ed. "I think there's always a sense that the services for families have been a little underserved, more geo- graphically than anything ... We've been trying to op- erate out of other facilities but a school is such a great location and it's good for Harrison because it's tak- ing some surplus space." The design will include both an adult-oriented space and a kid-friendly space, as well as wash- rooms and staff offices. Larger sessions will be able to make use of the gymna- sium or the library, Po- drebarac said. Woodview provides a number of mental health and autism programs, in- cluding its YODA (Youth Overcoming Depression and Anxiety) and Unstuck programs on the mental health side, as well as so- cial skills groups, work- shops for parents and one- on-one support on the au- tism side. "We want to provide high-quality services and strengthen lives," Bake- Murphy said. "So the fact that North Halton is a com- munity that's rapidly grow- ing, it's just perfect that that's happening."
