It was just the two of them home for the evening and she decided they should have a little date night. "I told him he was the best date ever," she said. Nancy and her husband Jamie adopted Tyler and his older sister Justice in 2013. The siblings are Cree and were living in northern Ontario prior to the adoption. Tyler's younger sister Justine also lives with a family nearby in Halton Hills. "Tyler was the most loving, adorable kid I've ever had the fortune of meeting. He came to live with us when he was eight, him and his sister. He had a troubled past before he came to live with us, but it was never anything that he did, just circum- stances, and he came out of that. He was such a good kid and he settled with us and we became a good family," she said. Nancy says to Tyler, family meant the world. "There's nothing he held closer to his heart than family," Nancy said. "His sisters were both the centre of his world. He loved them both dearly. He wanted nothing more than for them to be OK and safe and happy. He'd never leave a room without saying 'I love you.' He had such a sparkle in his eye and a beautiful smile." On April 22, around 9:15 p.m., paramed- ics were called to the Antles' home after Tyler was found seemingly without vital signs. He was taken to hospital, but did not survive. Tyler had a love for many activities. BMX, skateboarding and camping were some of his favourites. He was also a whiz at solving a Rubik's Cube, Nancy remem- bered. Nancy says Tyler was making strides in school and had often spoken about becom- ing a police officer when he grew up. "That was his main goal in life, to help people," she said. "It was a very tragic day for the whole school community," said Stewarttown Middle School principal Paul Vander- Helm. "Tyler was here since Grade 6, I've known him for almost two years. He was a fairly quiet student, but a very likable young man." Stewarttown has been working with the Tragic Events Response Team this week and providing counsellors for students in need. Some students have also come for- ward this week to share their own stories and experiences dealing with loss. The viewing for Tyler Antle will be held at J.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home (11582 Trafalgar Rd., north of Maple Ave., Georgetown) on April 27 from 6-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the chapel on April 28 at 11:00 a.m NEWS Stewarttown student mourned by family, school community VERONICA APPIA vappia@metroland.com Tyler Antle, 13, was a grade 7 student at Stewarttown Middle School.
