William Bijl of the CN Police, Roberta Dee of Deesigns and Ann Gibson of the OPP Victim Services Volunteer Unit. "We are looking for- ward to putting on a good show and raise awareness for this important organi-for this important organi-f zation that is helping keep Halton Region one of the safest regional communi- ties in Canada," said Cal Millar, Chair of Crime Stoppers of Halton. "When these volunteer criminals are sentenced to serve time in the make- shift jail at these shopping centres, each jailbird will be contacting colleagues, friends and family to raisefriends and family to raisef money for bail which will be set during a mock trial at the mall," explained De- tective Constable Jodi Richmond, police coordi- nator for Crime Stoppers of Halton. The Jail-a-Thon fea- tures a roughly five-by- five foot makeshift jail infive foot makeshift jail inf the centre court of the mall. There will be a judge, prosecutor and jail- birds who act out court- room scenarios where fic- titious, humorous charg- es are read out, sentences are handed down and the jailbird is expected to come up with the bail amount to gain their free- dom. All the proceeds go to Crime Stoppers of Hal- ton. The Jail-A-Thon fund- raiser will take place at Georgetown Market Place between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., Friday, April 27th. WHAT'S ON Georgetown Market Place will be used to house 'criminals' The Town of Halton Hills will soon be livestreaming their council sessions on their website. "Our council and committee meetings are open to the public," said Mayor Rick Bonnette, "But I understand that spending hours at town hall may not appeal to the majority of people despite their interest in municipal business." There will be five cameras recording the proceedings in council chambers, each discreetly placed around the room. The cameras will be sound activated, recording councillors and speakers as they turn on their microphones. The new system is set to go live for the community and corporate affairs meet- ings as well as planning, public works and transportation.
