3| The IFP -H alton H ills | T hursday,M ay 10,2018 theifp.ca Halton District School Board's long-term accom- modation plan has been updated and the board is seeking public input. The newly revised docu- ment highlights enrolment projections for 2018 to 2027 and identifies capital pro- ject initiatives, boundary review initiatives and the need for new school sites and spaces in the region. "Halton Hills is kind of static right now. We are not seeing any major accom- modation pressure," Do- menico Renzella, general manager of planning at Halton District School Board (HDSB) said in his presentation to the board on May 2. However, Renzella also says that growth will be ap- parent over the next few years, as part of the Vision Georgetown development, and that Halton Hills is projected to require 381 ad- ditional elementary pupil places by 2027. Also, according to the report, 161 secondary pupil places are projected to be available in Halton Hills by that same year. HDSB staff are suggest- ing three elementary school sites and one sec- ondary school site be built in Vision Georgetown. As well, by 2031, 6,408 residential units are expec- ted to be built in the area and there is a projected population increase of ap- proximately 17,800. Click here to view the full draft report. The dead- line to submit feedback is 4 p.m. on May 23. The form can be completed online, or can be mailed to HDSB. NEWS HDSB seeking input for long-term accommodation plan VERONICA APPIA vappia@metroland.com On May 7, as part of Education Week, the Halton District School Board will be official- ly launching its parent-engagement mobile application. Now available for download on the Apple App Store and Google Play, the HDSB app gives parents access to all the information they need, including bus cancellations, meet- ing times and school news, as well as the abil- ity to report absences right on the app. "We see parents as critical partners in the education process, and anything we can do to better engage with them and to better in- form them and align them with appropriate resources, we're certainly hoping that this technology will allow us to do that," said su- perintendent Rob Eatough. Trustee Kelly Amos echoed that senti- ment, saying the app has proven to be conve- nient, especially when it comes to school clo- sures or bus-cancellation notifications. "I just wanted to say how exciting this is," Amos said. "I know you've been going through testing in a couple of schools, and the trustees had access to the app as well, and I have to tell you that it worked great on snow days and when the buses weren't work- ing ... It let me know that the schools were closed, and I could respond appropriately without digging through the website to find out."
