However, on May 28, the Wood case was back in court, where his lawyer, Charles Barhydt of Helson's law firm filed a designation that allows Wood to not have to be present for hearings unless there is oral evidence being heard. The warrant was then rescinded. A representative for Wood's lawyer asked the judge for more time, in order to seek further disclosure on the charges against the ac- cused. The former Georgetown music teacher is charged with three counts of sexual assault and sexual interfer- ence. Wood was arrested on March 27 at his home in Markdale after a victim came forward alleging abus- es dating back decades. He was released on bail, where a publication ban was issued protecting the al- leged victims of the crime and was subsequently ar- rested a second time on April 20 after a second al- leged victim came forward. In mid-May, Halton po- lice were conducting inter- views in relation to the in- vestigation but have no up- dates currently. The next hearing is on June 18 at the Milton court- house. Member of the Norval Women's Institute and Nor- val Community Associa- tion planted the sapling at the former home of Lucy Maud Montgomery. The young tree has been grown from an acorn of the Old Speyside Oak Tree, which is currently under application to become des- ignated under the Ontario Heritage Act. "It was just the perfect opportunity," said Kathy Gastle, president of the Nor- val Community Associa- tion, who was planning on planting the tree this spring. "The idea came to us:we'll dedicate it to Harry and Meghan." Members of the Norval groups came decked out in their British finery for the occasion. The group took video of the planting and will be sending it over to the royal newlyweds. Pat Farley of the Archi- tectural Conservancy of Ontario's Halton Hills chap- ter had collected the acorns from the Speyside tree and had been cultivating them into saplings with the help of Sheridan Nurseries and community members. "As a Brit and the one who had the idea to collect the "royal" acorns, I wrapped myself in my Union Jack and joined the fun," said Farley, noting that "It seemed especially fitting that the tree was planted behind Lucy Maud Montgomery's former home, as she was a strong supporter of the Royal Fam- ily." Three of the saplings were planted this year, the other two being planted in Acton outside the legion and the old town hall.
