Platinum 2017 Halton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette is frustrated about the state of Halton Hills' rail lines that cross over roads in Acton and George- town, saying they're not just bad, they're downright dangerous. Cyclists may be finding it difficult to cross over the train tracks in both George- town and Acton, which staff and council say are in dire need of fixing. "You've got people on bicycles, you've got people on motorcycles and it is a risk," said Bonnette, explaining that the rail crossing on Acton's main street was sup- posed to be fixed months ago. "They didn't finish the job," said the mayor, talking about the rail company Go- derich Exeter, who is responsible for main- tenance. "The tracks have not gotten any better in seven months." Chris Mills, commissioner of transpor- tation and public works said that Metro- linx will be assuming responsibility for maintaining the crossings in coming months, and communication has been dif- ficult with Goderich Exeter to in advance of the changeover. "It is terrible," said Coun. Mike Albano, who represents Acton. "We're trying very hard to make the downtown viable again." He said that the state of the tracks over the highway discourages cyclists and mo- torcyclists. In Georgetown, CN Rail is responsible for the crossing on Trafalgar Road. Bonnette asked Coun. Clark Somerville to lobby CN Rail for repairs while he is at a Federation of Canadian Municipalities Conference in Halifax this week. "I would appreciate the delegation rais- ing the concerns," said Bonnette.
