It was a hard stance against Barack Oba- ma's "Buy American" movement, that stood to cut Canadian imports in hopes of fuelling economic growth within the United States. Over the weekend, Bonnette heard those all too similar sentiments from President Donald Trump as he threatened to slap Can- ada with tariffs on automotive imports, as well as steel and other goods. "No one wants, or encourages a trade war," the mayor said. "No one wins; there would be job losses on both sides of the bor- der." Instead, Bonnette has drafted a motion that is set to be circulated to the federal gov- ernment, Halton Region, City of Hamilton and City of Windsor, as well as the Minister of Trade, stating opposition to Trump's statements. "This is not a time for partisan politics," said Bonnette, who wants to stand in soli- darity with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, as well as premier-designate Doug Ford, who also voiced opposition. "This can affect families living in Halton Hills," said the mayor, who spoke with a lo- cal business owner over the weekend who shared his fear and nervousness with the mayor, urging them to make a statement. In 2009, contentious debates ensued across the country in municipalities, un- sure of whether to wade into the federal is- sue. "I led the country by bringing it to the federal government's attention," said Bon- nette. "We vehemently oppose restrictive trade practices." Coun. Clark Somerville worked along- side the mayor in drafting the document. The former president of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities says that he's championed dozens of international trade issues in his former role with FCM. "Looking at Canada as a threat to nation- al security on foreign trade is so ridiculous," said Somerville, adding that one single au- tomotive part can cross the border multiple times before it's a vehicle ready for sale. "Protectionism is bad," said Somerville, adding that Canada's tariffs with the U.S. are the lowest of all of the United States' trading partners. He also stated that Canada is the main trading partner with the majority of states in the United States. As to whether one single letter can rally the same international attention as nearly a decade before, both Somerville and Bon- nette can only hope. "The world's changed a lot since 2009," said Somerville. "I have no idea how far this will go. You always have to have an iron in the fire." The greatest give of God to humanity is His son. If He could give us His son, how would he not be able to give us all things? 1 Corinthians 3:21b says all things are yours. Romans 8:17 says we are joint heirs with Christ. I Peter 1:3 says by His divine power God has given us all things that pertain to life. All things mean all things and not some things. You have access to healing for your body, peace in your home, joy in your marriage, abundance, favour, increase, promotion, spiritual gifts, name it, and you will find it in Him. Colossians 1:17 says "by Him all things consist" Psalm 145:16 says He opens His hands and satisfy the desire of every living thing. 1 Corinthians 2:12 tells us His Spirit helps us to know all that God has freely given us and by connecting with the Holy Spirit we can access all things. Accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, and you shall receive the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:15. Unit 5 - 332, Guelph Street Georgetown, ON.
