Mike Glockner, Jeff Sandifer and Trent Cha- lecky were longtime Georgetown friends who started dabbling with brewing beer in their base- ments. After nearly a decade of basement brewing, the three friends decided to bring their work above ground with the help of two other business partners Mike Dykstra and Steve Leggat, purchasing a va- cant industrial building in Georgetown. After levelling one side of the structure and com- pletely building anew, the site is finally taking shape. "It started with Jeff," said Glockner, explaining that soon he and his friend were brewing beers in their basements, or fur- nace rooms, sharing their delicious creations with friends and family, who en- couraged them to start an enterprise. "Georgetown didn't have a brewery," said Glockner. "We're hoping that it's going to be a com- munity hub and a destina- tion." Much has changed since the last time the Furnace Room owners spoke with The Independent and Free Press last fall, when all they had in place was the footings for the building. "There have been hur- dles that we've had to over- come," said Glockner, over the incessant beeping of a delivery truck backing up to the facility. The brewing tanks and equipment were being de- livered from Niagara Falls, and assembled in the spa- cious, newly built brewing room complete with vault- ing ceilings and a skylight. "We've also got our core beers set," said Sandifer, explaining that the brew- ery will offer a pale ale, red ale, kolsch and cream la- ger. The crew have named the beers after Georgetown landmarks, and have the branding and label designs completed with the help of local artist Barry Hann. "We think that George- town will resonate with the names that we've chosen," said Sandifer. "We're wait- ing for the big reveal." Currently, the goal is to have beer ready for the Head for the Hills Craft Beer Festival, or by the fall. "We're excited about of- fering a product that peo- ple will enjoy," said Glockner.
