27| The IFP -H alton H ills | T hursday,A ugust 2,2018 theifp.ca Community Living North Halton has received the keys to a new minivan, which will help alleviate some of the pressures asso- ciated with the organiza- tion's shortage of vehicles. The refurbished 2012 Chevrolet Grand Caravan has been gifted to Commu- nity Living North Halton (CLNH) through a partner- ship between Georgetown Chevrolet Buick GMC, CARSTAR Collision & Glass Service and Georgetown Enterprise Rent-A-Car. It all started with a post- ing on Canadahelps.org, where Linda Hunt, the com- munity partnership manag- er at CLNH, reached out to the public for help obtaining another van for the organi- zation. Once Glen McDonald of Georgetown Chevrolet heard about the CLNH's need for a new vehicle, he reached out to Hunt and the planning began. Hunt says that though the organization has 30 vans in total, including five wheelchair-accessible vans, it does not mean that those vehicles are available for use at all times, as some break down or require maintenance. "When one van goes down, it truly impacts an in- dividual's livelihood and well being due to cancella- tions (and) delays," Hunt said, adding that sometimes the organization is forced to prioritize certain appoint- ments over others. "It goes back to prioritiz- ing. So a medical appoint- ment will take priority over an outing to the movies, so then unfortunately some- times that happens," she said. "If a van breaks down and we don't have the modes, we have to prioritize what is the higher need." She added that some- times CLNH orders taxis in order to fulfil their trans- portation needs, but there are certain areas the taxis will not cover, making their new van a crucial addition for the organization. CLNH has an ongoing need for both wheelchair- accessible vans and regular vans. For further informa- tion about the organization and what they do, visit https://clnh.on.ca/.
