It's always open. Even when no one is home, visitors can stop by and help themselves, grabbing the items they desire and leaving the funds for each item in a box. "It's based on the honour sys- tem," said owner Marylyne Hooke. "And for the most part, it works." The concept for Bakin' & Eggs began two years ago when Hooke began selling eggs in a cooler at the side of the road, with the inten- tion of generating some income re- quired to become a member of the Ontario Federation of Agricul- ture. Then, her husband John sug- gested she try selling her home- made baked goods as well. So, Hooke baked her well-loved banana bread and the business took off from there. "I started out just doing it for Saturday and Sunday, so I would bake Friday, and now I bake about four out of seven days of the week," she said. While Hooke says the banana bread remains her most popular item, she offers a variety of fla- vours throughout the year, de- pending on her mood and the sea- son. Earlier this year, inspired by the cake from the royal wedding, Hooke said she tried her hand at a lemon elderberry loaf and it sold out in no time. Bakin' & Eggs is currently of- fering banana bread, blueberry loaf, strawberry jam, strawberry rhubarb jam and fresh omega eggs. In a tent beside the shed, visi- tors are also able to purchase fire- wood.
