"We know we're on the right track," she said, ex- plaining that residents and even the chamber of com- merce have expressed in- terest in having a transit system in town. "It's giving people op- tions," said Fogal, explain- ing that transit in town would give families the op- tion of having fewer vehi- cles, it would give others the opportunity to get a job across town, for students to get around to events, sports program, it would give seniors more indepen- dence and spontaneity, without having to book the Activan services a day in advance. "When change comes, it's an opportunity to add things and improve our quality of life," said Fogal, talking about the growth of Halton Hills. She says that when she entered munici- pal politics, the town had only one arena, no biking or walking trails and a fair- ly inaccessible library. "We're now the tenth best community to live in," she said. With ground set to break on Vision George- town in 2021, Fogal says it's an opportunity for the town to build a spectacular community. "We really need to get it right," she said, talking about the planning for a community that has ample parks, trails and ameni- ties. "I'm going to keep push- ing for better standards on our development agree- ments," she said, explain- ing that details like the amount of top soil left on properties, erosion safe- guards and silt fencing are important for the town to negotiate with developers. "I want this to be a won- derful, beautiful, livable community," she said. MUNICPAL ELECTION Continued from page 10 Jane Fogal is a regional councillor for wards three and four in the town of Halton Hills. She is passionate about recreation, sustainable development and environmentalism, as well as serving the town. Alexandra Heck/Metroland
