Online condolences at www.brockandvisser.com Elizabeth (Beth) Yates Chappell Beth (nee Connely) Yates Chappell was born in Toronto on November 7th, 1928 and died surrounded by her children and grandchildren on December 7th, 2018. She celebrated her 90th birthday one month earlier with her large family and lifelong friends. Beth was the daughter of William and Br idget Conne ly. She was predeceased by her siblings Frank Connely, Rosemary Cook, Robert Connely and Tom Connely, and survived by her sister Marg Reid who has continued to visit often from California. Beth was just 5 years old when her mother died and so her beloved Aunt May helped to raise Beth, and her cousin Kay Dwyer became like a sister. In 1947, Beth married Jim Yates and they spent 35 years happily working and raising their children together. After his passing, she married Gerry Chappell. Beth is survived by her four children: Fred Yates and his partner Donna, Ron Yates, Ellen Carter, and Paul Yates and his wife Nancy. Beth was heartbroken a year ago by the passing of her beloved son-in-law, David Carter. Beth was the doting Nana to Tammy Vennavally-Rao and husband John, Alyson Yates, Scott Yates, James Carter and wife Jacky, Michael Carter and wife Bailey, and Jaclyn Ritchie and husband Rob. She was overjoyed in recent years to be united with her granddaughter Karen Boyd and husband Mike. Beth so loved being a grandmother that she easily extended her embrace to Nancy's children, Jason and Shannon, and to Gerry's large family. Perhaps her most joyous role was as great grandmother "Nana Beth" to Lauren, Bradley, Dillion, Kamryn, Coby, Kai, Logan, Grayson, William, Thomas, Avery and Finn. She also leaves behind so many much loved nieces, nephews and friends, including her lifelong pal Pat Barber. Part of "The Greatest Generation," Beth put difficulties aside and kept going throughout her long life. She worked hard for many years at the Domtar paper factory, often walking the 3 miles to work after making breakfast and packing lunches for the family. Then she walked home to put dinner on the table every night at 5:30 pm. In later years, she worked at the Georgetown Hospital. Beth had a generous and fun loving spirit that people naturally warmed to. Happiest when she was doing something for someone else, Beth was renowned for her butter tarts within the family and in her many circles of friends in Georgetown, Victoria Harbour, Burlington and, in recent years, at The Sands in Georgetown. She spent many happy hours playing cards with the girls, bowling, and hosting and attending parties. She loved to travel and had a fabulous vacation in The UK and Ireland with her sister-in-law Anna Connely, an Alaskan cruise with her sister Marg, and the trip of a lifetime in Italy for her 70th birthday with her daughter Ellen. The family will be forever grateful to the staff at Extendicare Halton who cared for their "Auntie Beth" with extraordinary kindness and care these past eight months. Friends were received at Jones Funeral Home in Georgetown for a time of visitation on Tuesday, December 11th from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm and to Holy Cross Parish in Georgetown for her funeral service on Wednesday, December 12th at 11:30 am. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Beth's memory to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or a charity of your choice.
