In 2018, the Halton police Toys for Tots campaign and the Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation's Miracle on Main initiative joined forces with the goal of assisting more families and children during the holiday season than ever before. As a result of this combined efforts, nearly $700,000 in toys, cash and gift cards were collect- ed and donated back to the com- munity. In addition, $30,000 was do- nated to various elementary schools in support of initiatives related to mental health, litera- cy, inclusive classrooms, coding, art workshops, classroom tech- nology and breakfast programs. Both Robert Little Public School in Acton and Glen Williams Pub- lic School participated in this year's campaign. The toys collected were do- nated to families in need of sup- port within the Region of Halton as well as several community or- ganizations including the local Salvation Army chapters, Hal- ton Women's Place, SickKids and McMaster Children's Hospi- tal. Highlights of this year's cam- paign included a Region-wide Cram-a-Cruiser event and the annual Miracle on Main celebra- tion that took place on Dec. 11 in Milton. "Halton residents, business partners and community orga- nizations once again showed their generous spirit of giving during the holiday season which had a direct impact on this year's overall success," said Halton Po- lice Chief Stephen Tanner. Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation President, Tiger Jeet Singh Jr., also weighed in on the initia- tive's success. "Sickness and poverty do not discriminate, neither should the spirit of giving," he said. "This has always been our foundation's message. There- fore as you can appreciate I'm so humbled in forming this amaz- ing alliance with Halton police, because as a tag team we'll now be able to share this message with more families than ever be- fore." Tanner said officers, civil- ians, auxiliary officers and members of the Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation donated their time and effort by collecting, packing and delivering toys to families in need. Representatives from Halton police and the Tiger Jeet Singh Foundation said they want to continue their partnership with the goal of continuing to grow the initiative in years to come.
