That was down from 96 issued during the same period in 2018, a drop of 17.8 per cent. The message does seem to be finally getting through. As of March 20, Halton police had handed out 327 distracted driving tickets. That's down from 620 over the same period last year, a decrease of 47.3 per cent. While the numbers are encouraging, Taraso says it doesn't feel that way on the region's roads. He said distracted driv- ing accounts for almost 40 per cent of all the tickets he's issued in 2019. And he's seen it all. Someone driving with a dog in one hand and their phone in the other, some- one watching a movie on an iPad, people FaceTim- ing while driving. Most of the distracted driving tickets Taraso is- sues are to people using their phones at stop lights. He often sees people using their phones driving in the opposite direction, but there is not always an op- portunity to turn around safely to follow the vehicle. He said stoplights lead to more tickets because it's easier to observe and gath- er evidence when stopped. He's witnessed people on their phone sit at a light for as long as 20 seconds after it has turned green. But those willing to text at a light, he said, are just NEWS Continued from page 12 See ONTARIO, page 21 Metroland Graphic Contributing factors to fatalities on OPP patrolled highways. That means the lawyer will do everything necessary with the matter, including going to court as the person's lawyer. With unbundles services, the lawyer is being asked to do specific tasks. For instance, the lawyer might draft court documents, or consult on a legal issue, or conduct legal research and give a legal opinion. If the lawyer goes to court in an unbundled service arrangement, the lawyer is going as agent, not as the client's lawyer. The benefit of unbundled services is that it can save costs, and the client maintains more control over the matter. However, the client is also having to do more of the work in what can be a complicated, intense process they are not familiar with. If you do retain a lawyer for unbundled services, make sure you have a detailed retainer agreement defining the relationship, so it is clear what the lawyer is doing and not doing.
