FILE NO.: D14ZBA19.005 (11801 Trafalgar Road) Looking to continue to meet the needs of the community for generations to come, the Community Foundation of Halton North (CFHN) held its first professional adviser community-building event. The foundation invited more than 60 lawyers, accountants, insurance agents and financial planners who gathered to discuss how the foundation can create and sustain funding to assist people and orga- nizations in North Halton. The CFHN is one of 191 community foundations across Canada, all of which are locally-run public foundations where contributions are invested and managed by foundation professionals - that allows the initial donation to grow and create a long-lasting contribution, rather than a one-time donation. Local volunteers serve as the board of directors to distribute funds based on the donor's wishes. Since being founded in 2014, the Com- munity Foundation of North Halton has contributed more than $100,000 in grants to local organizations. "We need to get the word out as to the important role the Community Founda- tion can play in building a better commu- nity and helping those in need," said Hal- ton Hills Mayor Rick Bonnette. Donors can choose a specific organiza- tion or a general area of interest to sup- port. "The diversity of the grants provided by the Community Foundation of Halton North ranges from arts and culture to the environment, and that means there's something for everyone," said Milton Mayor Gord Krantz. More information about CFHN is avail- able at www.cfnh.ca or by contacting Sue Lawrenson, CFHN executive director, at 905-864-9211.
