Providing Care for infants - 11yrs Book now for A Halton Hills councillor is inviting resi- dents concerned about climate change to make their voices heard. Councillor for Wards 3 and 4, Jane Fogal, is organizing a Citizens' Rally for Climate Action. "It's clear that we are in an emergency sit- uation," Fogal said, "One that isn't going to end in our lifetime." At the April 15 Town of Halton Hills coun- cil meeting, Fogal propose a draft resolution regarding the Climate Change Action Plan. "We need our governments to act," Fogal said. "Canada is heating up twice as fast as the rest of the world." The resolution recommended the Town declare a climate emergency and among other items reduce overall emissions from the town using steps including setting a goal of net zero emissions by 2030, transitioning Town fleet transportation to electric vehi- cles where possible, and "planning future growth predicated on the most energy effi- cient model." "It's the role of government to bring in measures we all have to participate in," Fo- gal said. "Those are the sorts of things we need to do to bring industry on side." Fogal said a carbon tax was the sort of thing governments can do to reduce carbon emissions. "I think it's all about incentives," Fogal said. "When we do those things, the air is cleaner, we reduce asthma - most of things we're talking about doing actually make peoples' lives better and save money in the end." The rally will be held on Friday, May 3 at noon in Dominion Gardens Park. NEWS Councillor Jane Fogal, who's also a cycling advocate and chair of the Halton Hills Bike It Committee, encourages local residents to attend the group's first Cycling Summit.
