The resolution has been adopted by more than 27 municipalities across the country. "We are known as a sustainable commu- nity," Mayor Rick Bonnette said. "So this should come as no surprise." The resolution was championed by Coun. Jane Fogal. "Climate change is real, it is happening now and we all have a responsibility to do what we can," Fogal said. "It is incumbent upon us as leaders in the community to en- act change via policies and practices to low- er our carbon emissions." The passed resolution outlined 14 actions to be taken to reduce overall emissions from the Town of Halton Hills. Staff was directed to report back to council in June detailing costs for the proposed climate change initia- tives. At the May 6 meeting, six delegations spoke in support of the need for climate ac- tion including Liberal candidate Lesley Barron, and Spencer Lippa, 12, the Green party's youngest member.
