Halton Region's Paramedic Day on Saturday gave local residents a chance to go behind the scenes and learn more about what paramedics do, explore their emergency equipment and even try on their tactical gear. The third annual event, held at the Woodlands Opera- tion Centre in Oakville, coincided with Paramedic Servic- es Week. "We are fortunate to have highly trained paramedics who work hard to help keep our community safe every day," said Regional Chair Gary Carr. "They perform life- saving skills, educate residents on important health and safety practices and work around the clock to provide ur- gent medical care to residents when they need it most." Halton has more than 270 paramedics who respond to over 50,000 calls and transport in excess of 30,000 patients annually. Operating from 12 ambulance stations, they pro- vide pre-hospital care to residents in Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville.
