Feline Immuno- deficiency Virus is a virus that affects only cats, and weakens the immune system, meaning the cat affected is vulnerable to secondary infections. This doesn't mean an FIV+ friend is hard to care for however - with a high-quality, healthy diet and a stress-free indoor environment, these cats can live perfectly normal lives! The FIV+ cats at UCHS also don't want you to worry - scary as it sounds, the virus cannot be passed to humans or other animals: it can only be transmitted to other cats, and only through deep bites. When looking for a new pet, please don't overlook our friendly FIV+ cats. While we understand that the idea can initially be intimidating to potential adopters, we hope you will keep them inmind.With the right diet and care, these lovely felines can have a perfectly happy, normal life with their forever family! HulkFelix Dodger is a mannerly gentle cat, estimated to be two years old - well past the "wild" stage. He plays nicely with his toys but prefers following humans around, supervising what they are up to and accepting any affection offered. Dodger is friendly with everyone but not persistent for attention. Food is not a priority for him hence his lean body. He is clean with his food area, tidy with his litter box and easily accepts nail trims. He is content indoors, observing outdoors from the top of his cat climber which he seldom uses for scratching. Dodger enjoys cuddle time before his big sleep at night. He jumps on the bed, gently nudges for some attention then settles down for long strokes down his back, tummy rubs and to finish, a massage between his back toes. Afterward he relocates to the bottom of the bed but leaves during the night - so everyone gets a good sleep. He is a lower energy cat and prefers play time then quiet restful periods of lounging. Dodger tolerates quiet dogs but he would enjoy being an only cat or possibly with an elderly cat, as too much feline commotion troubles him. He welcomes attention from all age groups of humans in a quiet setting. Dodger and Ghost will be available for adoption this Sat. at Pet Valu, 375 Mountainview Rd. S. from 2:00-4:00.
