ALEXANDER TRENTON, DENTURIST 905.877.2359 I 18 CHURCH STREET WWW.GEORGETOWNDENTURECLINIC.CA Halton is a large, di- verse and great place to live and work; it continues to be one of the fastest growing communities in Canada, with the popula- tion expected to reach one million by 2041. To ensure responsible growth and a sustainable future, Halton Region un- dertakes comprehensive planning, works closely with its partners and cre- ates policies that support informed land use deci- sions. Our current Regional Official Plan provides a clear vision for Halton's physical landscape and community character. It lays the groundwork for creating complete, sus- tainable communities and sets out goals and objec- tives to maintain the qual- ity of life that we collec- tively value. These in- clude how and when com- munities may grow, natural heritage preser- vation, employment land opportunities and where vital infrastructure such as roads, water and waste- water systems are needed. Regional Official Plan Review underway To ensure we remain aligned with provincial policies and are respon- sive to current social, eco- nomic and demographic conditions, certain areas within the current plan are officially under re- view, including: • Rural and agricultur- al systems - preserving ag- ricultural land and sup- porting local farming. • The Natural Heritage System - ensuring natural areas are connected and protected for present and future generations. • Climate change adap- tation and mitigation - set- ting policies to ensure we are resilient to a changing climate. • Growth management and urban systems - man- aging population and job growth, and balancing new residential and em- ployment land opportuni- ties. I encourage you to learn more about regional planning and the policy areas under review by vis- iting halton.ca. You can al- so stay up-to-date by sign- ing up for email updates or emailing ROPR@hal- ton.ca to ask questions about the review process. Thank you for your in- terest in this important process that will ensure the region remains a great place to live, work, raise a family and retire. Gary Carr is regional chair of Halton Region. OPINION PLANNING FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE AND MAINTAINING QUALITY OF LIFE REGION WORKING TO ENSURE RESPONSIBLE GROWTH, WRITES GARY CARR GARY CARR Column Acton Home Hardware recently celebrated a change in ownership with the presentation of a ceremonial saw from head office. The local store was operated by Bill and Valerie Manes (third and fourth from left) for over two decades. They took over in downtown Acton in 1996 and built a new store on Queen Street in 1999. Acton Home Hardware remains in the Manes family, with Bill and Valerie's children, Brett and Terresa, along with their spouses Jessica and Chris, taking the reins last year.
