BONUSBONUSBONUS LETTER TO THE EDITOR Speeding on residential streets is so rampant, someone is going to be seri- ously hurt or killed. I live on a one-way street where drivers not only ex- ceed the speed limit but al- so go the wrong way. There isn't a speed lim- ited posted, sidewalks are only on part of the street, plus, there's a school at the one end. I understand there is a process, but asking resi- dents to post signs politely asking drivers to slow down is not a deterrent for these unsafe, distracted and reckless drivers. These people have no re- gard for children, pedestri- ans or cyclists. The stark reality of how ineffectual these signs are was demon- strated to me when I saw a baby carriage parked at the roadside near one. Speed bumps, increased police presence, stop signs, radar cameras, flashing lights, substantial fines and charges - surely one of these can be implemented. If speed bumps are the best deterrent, install them! Anti-speed-bump senti- ments will disappear, as will the speeding cars - problem solved. My hope is that a solu- tion can be quickly imple- mented so we don't read about that baby buggy be- ing dragged into the street by a speeding car - not emp- ty, but with a child in it.
