Though, youth may have been a loosely applied term, as only a handful of attendees were still covered by OHIP+. "I noticed there was a lack of political engagement from young people in our community," Gemma Patey, event organiz- er, said. Patey, a student of global politics at Carlton University, organized the event while on her summer break. "It's very important for youth to get in- volved," Patey said. "There has been some disengagement from the youth. They don't see themselves really represented in poli- tics." Four candidates vying to represent the riding of Wellington-Halton Hills as a member of Parliament included: Leslie Barron, of the Liberal party; Ralph Mar- tin, of the Green party; Sylvain Carle, of the People's Party of Canada, and Michael Chong, who has represented the riding since 2004 for the Conservative party. Candidates were asked five prepared questions relating to climate change, the economy, electoral reform, and cost of liv- ing before taking questions from the audi- ence. The upcoming federal election will be held on Oct. 21.
