Break out those scissors - it's almost time to scrapbook for a good cause. Kathryn's Krop 4 a Kure is set to take place Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Georgetown District High School, with proceeds going to benefit neuroblastoma research at Sick Kids. The day will include scrapbooking with snacks, drinks and a catered lunch provided by Pat's Meats and Deli. Participants will also receive a gift bag and be eligible to receive door prizes. The cost is $50. Those interested can pre- register at kathrynskrop4akure@gmail.com. There will also be a silent auction for ev- erything from golf passes to Raptors tickets and a weekend away at a cottage, along with a raffle for a vintage dressing table. Both are open to the public, including those not scrap- booking, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event's namesake, Kathryn Stewart, is a 16-year-old Georgetown resident who has been fighting cancer for the majority of her life. At age five, she was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer of the nervous system. The disease has returned four times since then, with Kathryn enduring countless treat- ments, surgeries and tests over the past de- cade. She's currently undergoing a new trial to treat the inoperable cancer that's in her skull, hip and spine. For more on Kathryn's journey and the Krop 4 a Kure visit kathrynskrop4akure.ca. The best thing you can do whether you are wearing hearing instruments or not is to use effective listening strategies. Even people with normal hearing have difficulty in some situations. Don't get discouraged. The following are some effective listening strategies you can implement easily: • Make sure the person you are communicating with is facing you and not turned away or in another room. • Make sure the background noise is kept to a minimum when trying to communicate. • Have people try to get your attention before they start to speak to you.
