The 17-year-old Hoskin, from 756 Wild Goose Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron (RCACS), trained at the Saint-Jean Cadet Flying Training Centre in Saint-Jean-sur- Richelieu, Que. The course is a six-week summer camp designed to increase cadets' passion for space science, space travel and astronomy. The cadets have the opportunity to par- ticipate in activities such as rocket launches at the airport, visits of the Cosmodome and the Canadian Space Agency, robot competi- tions and space mission simulations while scuba diving. It is a unique experience for cadets to participate in this national course. The St-Jean CFTC is a summer training centre in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. The Centre welcomed 189 cadets 14-18 years of age on its three courses this sum- mer: Advanced Aerospace Course, Glider Pilot Scholarship and Power Pilot Scholar- ship. COMMUNITY CADET EXCELS AT ADVANCED AEROSPACE COURSE Christine Hawkin (second from left) and her crew built a Gamma Rocket during their six-week advanced aerospace course this past summer. The rocket flew close to 3,000 feet. Hawkin, 17, of Georgetown earned a Top Cadet Award for her agency, a Youth Excellence Award and a $1,000 scholarship from The Cadets and Junior Rangers Bursary Program. RCSU photo
