Temporary Road Closure Due to Event - Acton Trick of Treat The Halton Regional Po- lice Service has a new dep- uty chief. Deputy Chief Jeff Hill was sworn into the new role on Wednesday, Oct. 16 during a ceremony at the Burlington Convention Centre. "It's surreal," said Hill in an interview prior to the ceremony. "When you start this job, this is not where you pic- ture yourself at all. It's just an incredible honour and I can't wait to get going on it." Hill's promotion follows the departure of Halton po- lice deputy chief Nishan Duraiappah, who left to take on the role of Peel chief of police on Oct. 1. Hill began his career with Toronto Police in 1997 where he served as a court officer and a parking en- forcement officer. In December of 1998, he joined Halton police and was assigned to uniformed patrol in Oakville. He later served as a pa- trol officer in Burlington and then transitioned into the criminal investigations bureau in 2006. Hill rose through the ranks, eventually being promoted to inspector and placed in the role of com- mander of human resourc- es. He then became super- intendent for regional in- vestigative services, which includes the homicide unit, domestic violence unit, the child abuse and sexual as- NEWS Halton Police Chief Stephen Tanner (left) presents Deputy Chief Jeff Hill with his new badge at his swearing-in ceremony.
