The aim of the Women in Business committee is to empower women to grow their business and advance their careers while giving back to the community. The group hosts an Inter- national Women's Day Re- treat in March, with inter- active sessions designed to educate, motivate, and cel- ebrate the business women of Halton Hills. Partici- pants also brought dona- tions of feminine hygiene products - a request of the Halton Women's Place. In June, the committee hosted the Halton Hills Hope in High fundraising event for the Halton Wom- en's Place. Boys and men are invited to show their support in ending violence against women by walking in pink high heels. This year, 26 walkers marched through the Downtown Georgetown Farmers Mar- ket to show their support. As part of the commit- tee's mandate to help wom- en, the group chose to focus on the Halton Women's Place, a non-profit organi- zation devoted to assisting abused women and their dependent children. "We wish that violence against women was not part of our community," Liz Bates, chair of the Women in Business com- mittee, said, "but it is and the need for support is great. Our goal is to pro- vide funds and needed items for the centre and al- so bring awareness of Hal- ton Women's Place to those who may need services."
