Members of the Halton Hills Hundred will decide which of three local chari- ties will receive a donation of $100 from each member of the group. "It's a great way for us to give back to our communi- ty," Graham Baker, a foun- ding member, said. Right now, the group has about 15 core members, but is actively seeking new members. Four times a year, mem- bers meet to hear from three different charitable organizations and then vote to support one charity with a collective donation. "Even if you're not the chosen charity, you'll find people within that group who will reach out," Baker said. The only requirement for the charity is that it must be able to issue a tax receipt. After each charity has presented to the group, members will vote on where to donate their mon- ey. "I'm hoping we'll have about 25 people out to the next meeting," Baker said. "That's $2,500 to help out somewhere before Christ- mas." At the upcoming meet- ing, members will hear from Townsend Smith Hos- pice, St. John's United Church and the Acton Na- vy League Cadets. Baker said the group shares some DNA with groups like 100 Women Who Care Halton Hills, stemming from the same core organization with about 675 chapters world- wide. Members can be indi- viduals or groups looking to donate, as long as only one donation is made. Last year, the group do- nated $2,600 to Community Living North Halton. The next meeting of the Halton Hills Hundred will be at the Furnace Room Brewery (1 Elgin St.) on Dec. 4, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. More information about the group is available at facebook.com/haltonhill- shundred.
