Maureen Turner and Tom Rasmussen became the owners of Creature Comfort Company pet sup- ply store on Main Street late last year. The local parents of four are no strangers to animals - having worked in the pet food industry until recent- ly, when they decided they were ready for a bit of a change. "I said to Tom, 'What if we owned our own pet store?'" recalled Turner. After discovering the high costs of opening a store from scratch, the cou- ple heard that Creature Comfort Co. was for sale. "We liked this building and the feel of the store, and Pam (the previous owner) was amazing," said Turner. "She had already built up the business, and we're lucky enough to ben- efit from all of her hard work." The couple says they've received a warm welcome in their new venture and are excited to be part of the downtown community. The store carries a wide variety of products for wild birds and household pets, including high-quality foods for dogs and cats and specialty meals for ani- mals with sensitivities. "We bring in food that we would feed to our ani- mals, so you can be sure it's high quality," said Turner. "It's human grade." The store has been lo- cated in the downtown core for more than 20 years, with the past four spent in the house-turned-business at 16 Main St. S. Going forward, Rasmus- sen said they're consider- ing some new initiatives, including animal photo sessions, a 'doggie market' during the Georgetown Farmers' Market and local delivery of products for se- niors. "With the aging popula- tion in Georgetown, we would like to make it more convenient for seniors," he noted. For more information visit creaturecomfortco- .com.
