As Canada's busiest airport, we understand that our operations impact the communities around us. Airside maintenance will result in changes to routine airport operations and we will be working to mitigate the effect of those temporary changes on our neighbors. THERE ARE TWO IMPORTANT AREAS OF WORK FOR THIS YEAR: • Rebuilding three sections of Taxiway H Replacement of concrete slabs on Taxiway H • Rehabilitation of Runway 15L/33R Full-length resurfacing of the runway to maintain a safe and stable paved surface COMMUNITIES THAT MAY NOTICE A CHANGE IN AIRPORT OPERATIONS INCLUDE: East - Etobicoke North, Etobicoke Centre, Humber River-Black Creek, York Centre, Willowdale, Don Valley North, Markham-Thornhill, Markham-Unionville, Vaughan-Woodbridge West - Mississauga-Malton, Mississauga East-Cooksville, Mississauga-Erin Mills, Mississauga-Streetsville, Mississauga Centre, Milton North - Brampton East, Brampton Centre, Brampton North, Mississauga-Malton South - Etobicoke Centre, Etobicoke Lakeshore, Mississauga East-Cooksville For more details about the work and its timing, you can learn more at torontopearson.com/airsidemaintenance. The first day of school will be Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2020 and the last day of instruction will be June 30 and June 29, 2021 for ele- mentary and secondary students, respec- tively. The calendar is "unique" in that two of the seven allotted professional activity (PA) days will fall before the beginning of the school year on Sept. 2 and 3. Under Ministry of Education direction, the school calendar must be between 194- 196 days, of which seven are PA days: three ministry oriented and four optional PA days given to board. "We have 192 days between Labour Day and the end of the year, June 30 (in 2021). The calendar must fall between Sept. 1 and June 30, so we have put two additional PA days outside of that and those are techni- cally counted as instructional days," said system administrator Andrew Bigham. That results in 187 instructional days out of a total of 194 school days, he said. "This is a unique calendar in we haven't seen this in 10 years. It has happened in the past," said Superintendent of Education Julie Hunt-Gibbons. School breaks and holidays are: Thanksgiving Day, Oct. 12; winter break, Dec. 21-Jan. 1 (inclusive); Family Day, Feb. 15; spring break, March 15-19; Good Friday, April 2; Easter Monday, April 5; and Victo- ria Day, May 24. Besides Sept. 2 and 3, PA days will fall on Oct. 9, Nov. 27, Feb. 5, April 23, June 4 (ele- mentary) and June 30 (secondary). The school year calendar will come back to the board for approval on March 25. NEWS Halton District School Board has released its proposed school year calendar.
