TH EI FP .C A /C O RO N AV IR U S WE EXPLAIN THE SEEMINGLY-UNSTOPPABLE CORONAVIRUS AND ITS IMPACT ON YOU AND YOUR COMMUNITY. The Halton Hills Public Library will be donating blankets knitted from its Com- munity Knitting Project to the Extendi- care Halton Hills and Bennett Health Care Centre. The project started in the fall of 2018, with patrons of the library encouraged to visit either branch of the library to knit squares of any colour or pattern they wished. Throughout the branches, visitors could find baskets with yarn and knitting needles. Over the past year, patrons have knitted more than 400 squares, either with the yarn provided or by contributing their own. The HHPL reached out on social media seeking volunteers to knit the squares into blankets, and with an overwhelming re- sponse from volunteer knitters, the li- brary is able to donate eight blankets (of 20 to 25 squares each) to Extendicare Halton Hills and the Bennett Health Care Centre. "We are so pleased and overwhelmed that this program has been welcomed and received by the Halton Hills community," Brandy Gillet, community librarian at the HHPL, said. "It's a joy to be able to offer these blankets to people who will use them and cherish them, knowing our communi- ty literally had a hand in making them. It means so much more when they are made by hand and with love." The Community Knitting Project is an ongoing initiative and the HHPL is inviting patrons to continue knitting squares for ongoing community projects.
