Halton Healthcare, which operates the hospi- tals in Georgetown, Milton and Oakville, is offering Virtual Visiting and Email a Patient programs as visi- tor restrictions continue at the local facilities. Through Virtual Visit- ing, patients can connect with their loved ones over the internet. Those who are not able to use their own devices to communi- cate through audio or video chats can receive assis- tance with hospital devices and technology platforms. The program is available seven days a week between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., with 24 hours' notice recom- mended. The Email a Patient pro- gram is an established ini- tiative at Halton Health- care that allows individu- als to send emails to pa- tients in the hospital when they're not able to visit in person. The email is printed by hospital staff, sealed and delivered to the patient. "Family support is al- ways important, especially at this time. While we've had to temporarily restrict visitors to our hospitals for safety during this pandem- ic, we want to ensure that patients can stay in touch and connect with their families and friends," said Trish Carlton, Halton Healthcare's director of communications and pub- lic affairs. "These pro- grams allow us to protect our patients, staff and com- munity while utilizing technologies to provide al- ternative ways to visit and communicate." Families are encour- aged to visit the COVID-19 section at haltonhealthca- re.com and fill out the re- quest form for Virtual Vis- iting or use the Email a Pa- tient service.
