While it is important to react to provincial announcements as they happen we are also readying programs and facilities in anticipation of the next phases. It is crucial that we reopen Halton Hills responsibly while adhering to public health guidelines so our residents can stay healthy and our businesses can stay open. Retail Operations Reopening The Town continues to work with local businesses to understand the guidance and protocols provided by the province as more businesses are allowed to open. By-law enforcement continues to work with Halton Regional Police to help inform, educate and enforce emergency orders and therefore a common understanding and continued cooperation is critical. Expect more communications from the Town the provincial government releases information. Service Delivery and Program Cancellations Although Town facilities remain closed, physical spaces are being modified in anticipation of reopening. Service desks are being fitted with plexiglass and physical distancing reminders are being installed along with other safety measures. New processes and procedures for interacting and program/service delivery are also being developed to ensure public health guidelines are being met. We are preparing now so we can be ready. Premier Gateway Despite economic uncertainty caused by COVID-19, development and investment interest in the Premier Gateway (Halton Hills' main employment area along the Steeles Avenue corridor), continues to move forward. This is due in part to the Town's 'open for business' approach which includes early, decisive and coordinated actions to assist companies and attract non-residential assessment and local jobs. We have implemented a number of new actions in addition to continuing to process new and existing development applications and advancing the business concierge initiative - a process to fast-track approvals for major investments. Staff is conducting virtual building permit inspections, conducted a COVID-19 business survey and established an Economic Support and Recovery Task Force.
