Change is in the air for Acton's favourite food truck. Chow Hounds Eatery has big plans in the works, with a chef coming on board next month who'll be intro- ducing some new menu items, and potentially keep- ing the business open be- yond the traditional operat- ing season of summer and early fall. "I think we will keep it open most of the year going forward," said owner Blake Martin. "We're excited about the future, and what we've built here already." Since opening its doors on Highway 7 beside Mac- Millan's five years ago, Chow Hounds has quickly developed a fan following lo- cally and beyond, with peo- ple coming from as far away as Toronto and Woodstock to enjoy its classic food truck fare. With the help of his fa- ther-in-law -- a chef who owns Bin 23 restaurant in Guelph -- and a love for TV shows like "Diners, Drive- ins and Dives," Martin de- veloped a menu that fea- tures everything from pulled pork sandwiches and traditional hamburgers made fresh in-house to deep-fried pickles and all kinds of handcut fries. "We didn't want to be your generic food truck. We like to make everything homemade," said Martin. He noted that Chow Hounds' "staple" item is por- ky fries -- picture a poutine smothered in pulled pork, baked beans and homemade barbecue sauce. The truck is currently open from Wednesday to Saturday, with the goal to have it open six days a week in the future.
