The Halton Catholic District School Board has announced changes to starting dates for students as schools get ready to re- open. • The first day of school will be delayed until Wednesday, Sept. 9. • For secondary school students, instruction will begin on Sept. 9. • Students in Grades 1-8 will all begin school Mon- day, Sept. 14, both in-class and remote learning stu- dents. However, elementa- ry students will be eased into the new school year by coming into school in smaller groups on Sept. 9, 10 and 11. • On Wednesday, Sept. 9, only students in Grades 1-8 with surnames beginning with the letters A-F will come to school. • On Thursday, Sept. 10, students in Grades 1-8 whose surnames begin with the letters G-N will come to school. • On Friday, Sept. 11, on- ly students in Grades 1-8 with surnames beginning with the letters O-A will come to school. • The delay allows staff to rehearse the new health and safety protocols, as well as facilitate the set-up of learning management systems and resources for distance learning, and help alleviate some of the anxiety in students, ac- cording to the HCDSB. • As per the board's usu- al practice, there will be a staggered entry for kinder- garten students with Year 1 and 2 orientation taking place on Tuesday, Sept. 8 and Wednesday, Sept. 9. Year 2 students will begin on Thursday, Sept. 10. Year 1 staggered entry will take place on Friday, Sept. 11 and Monday. Sept. 14. All kindergarten stu- dents will attend school beginning Tuesday, Sept. 15. • Students in the self- contained Community Living, Essential Skills and Structured Teaching special education class in elementary schools will begin in-class instruction on Wednesday, Sept. 9. • Secondary school stu- dents in Life Skills classes will begin in-class instruc- tion on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
