O'Neill rebuilt the block after the fire. Today, Dini & Co. and Main Video & Variety are located in the block. Courtesy of Heritage Halton Hills and the Esquesing Historical Society. EHS photo THE WAY WE WERE We know that diversity is the strength of our com- munities. As your community's source of local news and in- formation, we are commit- ted to amplifying and ele- vating a more diverse range of voices in our cov- erage, both by seeking out more Black, Indigenous and other racialized ex- perts, and by covering the issues that matter to people of colour, members of the LGBTQ2+ community and anyone else who has been underrepresented in the media. To accomplish this goal, we want and need your help. We are reaching out to you in the hope that you will consider sharing your unique and important voice as a member of an un- derrepresented communi- ty in the pages of our print publications and on the website you are reading now. We are aware that many items in the news impact our many communities in very different ways, and that these different per- spectives need to be heard to better reflect the diversi- ty of our communities. Our company has adopted the seven recom- mendations made by Cana- dian Journalists of Colour (CJOC ) and Canadian As- sociation of Black Journal- ists (CABJ) to improve di- versity within our ranks and in the content that we produce. We recognize that we have a lot of work to do and have committed to several initiatives. We also recog- nize that to be successful, we need to listen and learn. If you have ever picked up one of our publications or visited one of our com- munity news websites and felt your unique voice could have contributed to, or improved our coverage, we want to hear from you.
