The age limit for the Youth Taxi Scrip program has increased, allowing a larger portion of young people in Halton Hills to use the program. "Until such time when we have a local transit sys- tem, it's important that we continue to leverage oppor- tunities to support easy and affordable means to travel throughout the com- munity," said Mayor Rick Bonnette. The program provides registered riders between the ages of 13 and 24 a 40 per cent discount on regular taxi fares with participat- ing companies. Previously, the age of eligibility was for youths up to age 19. An ActiVan application for youth form must be completed in order to par- ticipate in the program. Taxi scrip books are available for $12 with a face value of $20. Registered us- ers may purchase up to four taxi scrip books per month from the following locations: • Robert C Austin Oper- ations Centre (by appoint- ment) • Mold-Masters Sport- sPlex (by appointment) • Georgetown Lotto Booth (inside Georgetown Marketplace) • Halton Hills Library locations • Town Hall - Service Halton Hills • Links2Care (Acton) • Acton Hillsview Active Living Centre More information is available at haltonhills.ca. COUNCIL AGE RANGE OF YOUTH TAXI SCRIP PROGRAM INCREASED BRYAN MYERS bmyers@metroland.com LETTERS AND COMMENTARY RETRACING TERRY'S HISTORIC STEPS On Sept. 20, Georgetown hosted the 40th annual Ter- ry Fox Run. The event was held entirely online and consisted of residents run- ning, walking or rolling their own route, on their own time. I myself chose to run the route Terry Fox took through Georgetown. I traced his steps past down- town, up by Georgetown District High School, along what was once the Domin- ion Seed House and eventu- ally to the top of Norval Hill where Terry was presented a freshly baked lasagna from one Georgetown resi- dent. He devoured it entirely while she watched. Terry was here in 1980, and the spirit of his Mara- thon of Hope has been with us in Georgetown ever since. This year, despite the lack of an actual event, over $10,000 was donated in support of the Terry Fox Foundation. I would like to send my sincerest thanks to all who donated. As we know, pandemic or not, cancer carries on, and so, too, does the fight to stop it. Thank you Georgetown, and see you next year at the 41st Terry Fox Run.
